Creator Statement

Submitted are a handful of Struts that have been especially meaningful over the last year. To name a few, the opening Strut (about New York pride) was filmed in the heart of New York City in the electric aftermath of the Knicks' historic playoff celebration. As thousands flooded downtown for the victory parade, Lachi transformed the city's collective euphoria into an NYC pride anthem, rapping through the streets with her signature blue Glam Cane. The piece captures the energy of the moment while celebrating disability visibility, individuality, and the unmistakable spirit of the city.

Another standout Strut (rapping about "The Bag") garnered millions of views as Lachi rapped with her red Glam Cane about deserving whatever she wants. The sample also showcases collaborative Struts, as well as Struts with public figures like Mayor Brandon Johnson and Hillary Clinton. Most of Lachi's Struts are filmed in NYC, often in iconic locations (like Central Park, Washington Square Park, or just a cute Brooklyn street corner).

Filmmaker Bio

Award-winning, NYC-based recording artist, author, and advocate Lachi is known for her lyrical prowess, bold fashion, and work celebrating Disability Culture through music, storytelling, and style. Born legally blind, she takes her advocacy to the streets, rocking her signature Glam Canes (white canes adorned with rhinestones) alongside six-inch heels as she struts through city avenues with celebrities, fellow advocates, and everyday New Yorkers, or delivers sharp, high-energy rap freestyles rooted in her lived experience as a chronically underestimated blind woman of color. After watching Lachi strut, audiences leave entertained while seeing disability, and often themselves, through a more joyful, unapologetic lens.
