Shanghai Sherlock
Directed by Shane Gentles, Alex Kiehl, Daniel D. Newman, Jiao Sybilla Wang.
When a murdered MP turns up in the woods, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson find themselves stumbling through a deadly opium-trade conspiracy that's silencing London's reformers, one corpse at a time. Luckily, Holmes's new assistant, Miss Peng, a brilliant young woman from Shanghai, is solving the case faster than either man can keep up. But when the killers realize she's the real threat, the world's greatest detective has to race to save the woman who's been saving him all along.

Creator Statement
We set out to create a vertical mini-drama that challenges expectations of the format. Rather than following established trends, our goal was to craft a richly layered, bilingual period piece that brings together Chinese and Western performers in a shared cinematic space. While we embraced elements often associated with vertical storytelling like melodrama and flashes of humour, we also wanted to build an intricate character-driven series packed with subtle visual clues. Every creative decision was guided by the belief that vertical storytelling can sustain the same complexity and artistic rigor as traditional formats.
