Creator Statement
The inspiration for I Married the Wrong Guy came from the ’90s thrillers I grew up loving, like True Lies, The Long Kiss Goodnight, The Fugitive, and U.S. Marshals. Those movies made me want to become a filmmaker. I’ve always enjoyed stories that keep you guessing and trying to figure out what’s really going on, so vertical dramas felt like the perfect space for that. More than anything, I want audiences to have fun, debate the characters’ choices, and see themselves in the story.

Devon Jovi Johnson is a filmmaker, writer, editor, producer, and founder of District 51 Studios. With more than a decade of experience, he has directed and produced music videos, commercials, documentaries, podcasts, and narrative projects for major artists and brands. His feature film, What Happened at 625 River Road, received theatrical and digital distribution, while his latest series, I Married the Wrong Guy, expands his work into vertical drama. Known for psychological thrillers, suspense, and visually driven storytelling, Johnson continues creating independent projects that blend entertainment, mystery, and conversation while building original stories for modern audiences worldwide across multiple platforms.
